AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR CANCER RESEARCH

BLANTON-DAVIS OVARIAN CANCER RESEARCH PROGRAM
The Blanton-Davis Ovarian Cancer Research Program was established at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in 1996 to develop effective screening methods and a cure for ovarian cancer though innovative research into causes, prevention, detection, and treatment. Clinical trials open to the public are listed on their web site as well as general information about ovarian cancer (go to the ‘disease list’ and choose ovarian cancer). Research nurses are available to answer medical questions.

The Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) is an internationally renowned non-profit research institute dedicated to the study and application of systems biology. MARSHA RIVKIN CENTER FOR OVARIAN CANCER RESEARCH
The Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research funds innovative pilot studies in ovarian cancer research, hosts a national ovarian cancer research symposium, and develops educational outreach programs that increase ovarian cancer awareness throughout our community.

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
With chartered divisions throughout the country and over 3,400 local offices, the American Cancer Society (ACS) is committed to fighting cancer through balanced programs of research, education, patient service, advocacy, and rehabilitation.
BLOOD & MARROW TRANSPLANT INFORMATION NETWORK
BMT InfoNet provides information and emotional support to transplant patients and their families. Publications, attorney referrals for insurance problems, a patient-to-survivor link, and a directory of transplant centers are all available.
CHEMOTHERAPY FOUNDATION
The foundation provides free publications on treatment regimens and combination therapies for ovarian, breast, and prostate cancer patients. A web site is currently under development.
GILDA RADNER FAMILIAL OVARIAN CANCER REGISTRY
This international registry tracks families with two or more relatives with ovarian cancer. In addition to ovarian cancer research, the registry offers a help line, education, information and peer support for women with a high risk of ovarian cancer. The Gillette Women’s Cancer Connection was developed by The Gillette Company to provide women, their families, and friends access to information on breast and gynecological cancer.
GYNECOLOGIC CANCER FOUNDATION (GCF)
The GCF is a not-for-profit fundraising organization established by the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO) to support ovarian cancer research, the training of cancer specialists in laboratory research, and a variety of programs for patient education and public awareness of gynecologic cancers. Callers can obtain a list of nearby specialists in gynecologic oncology, a nationwide directory of all SGO members, and informational literature.
HOSPICELINK
HospiceLink is an independent, not-for-profit service that provides information on hospice care and refers cancer patients and their families to local hospice programs and publications.
INTERCULTURAL CANCER COUNCIL
The ICC promotes policies, programs, partnerships, and research to eliminate the unequal burden of cancer among racial and ethnic minorities and medically underserved populations in the United States and its associated territories. The council hosts a biennial symposium on minorities and cancer.
LOOK GOOD…FEEL BETTER
Look Good…Feel Better is a program developed by the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation in cooperation with the American Cancer Society that helps cancer patients undergoing treatment develop skills to improve their appearance. (800) 395-LOOK (800-395-5665)
NATIONAL FAMILY CAREGIVERS ASSOCIATION
NFCA is a grass roots organization created to educate, support, empower, and speak up for the millions of Americans who care for chronically ill, aged, or disabled loved ones. The NFCA provides information and works for public awareness and advocacy.
NATIONAL HOSPICE ORGANIZATION
The National Hospice Organization is an association of groups that provide hospice care. Founded in 1978 to promote and maintain quality hospice care and encourage support for patients and family members, this organization can provide information on local hospices.
NORTH AMERICAN MENOPAUSE SOCIETY (NAMS)
NAMS is the leading scientific nonprofit organization devoted to promoting women's health during midlife and beyond through understanding of menopause. This site includes information on perimenopause, early menopause, menopause symptoms and long-term health effects of estrogen loss, and a wide variety of therapies to enhance health.

R.A. BLOCH CANCER FOUNDATION, INC.
The R.A. Bloch Cancer Foundation, Inc. provides a hotline that matches newly diagnosed cancer patients with someone who has survived that same kind of cancer. Offers free information, resources, and support groups. Also supplies three books at no charge: Fighting Cancer, Cancer…There’s Hope, and Guide for Cancer Supporters.
SHARE: SELF-HELP FOR WOMEN WITH BREAST OR OVARIAN CANCER
SHARE is a not-for-profit organization providing information hotlines for breast and ovarian cancer in English and Spanish; peer led support groups; and wellness, education, and advocacy programs. SHARE contributes to awareness regarding research, prevention, and early detection.
SOCIETY OF GYNECOLOGIC ONCOLOGISTS (SGO)
The SGO is a non-profit, international organization made up of obstetricians and gynecologists specializing in gynecologic oncology. Its purpose is to improve the care of women with gynecologic cancer, to raise standards of practice in gynecologic oncology and to encourage on-going research. Use the search form under ‘Directory’ on their web site for a referral to a gynecologic oncologist in your area.
THE NEUROPATHY ASSOCIATION
People with neuropathy, their families, and friends established this organization to help those who suffer from disorders that affect the peripheral nerves.
UNITED OSTOMY ASSOCIATION, INC. (UAC)
The United Ostomy Association was founded and is operated by people who have had an ostomy. This organization provides mutual aid and support to ostomy patients, informs patients and the public about pertinent information concerning ostomies, and sends volunteers to visit with new ostomy patients.
WELL SPOUSE FOUNDATION
The Well Spouse Foundation offers a website for partners of those with serious illnesses and offers support and suggestions for coping.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) gives civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. An individual is considered to have a "disability" if s/he has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, has a record of such impairment, or is regarded as having such impairment. The ADA provides important legal rights for individuals with cancer and individuals that have recovered from cancer. Contact the US Department of Justice for further information about the ADA.
ANNIE APPLESEED PROJECT
The Annie Appleseed Project, a 501 (c)3 non profit corporation, provides information, education, advocacy and awareness for people with cancer, family and friends interested in, complementary, alternative medicine (CAM), natural therapies from the patient perspective.
CANCER INFORMATION SERVICE (CIS)
The Cancer Information Service, funded largely by the National Cancer Institute, provides information specialists who can give callers information about the latest state-of-the-art treatment for a particular cancer; where clinical trials are taking place, and information about detection, prevention, diagnosis, support groups. Free NCI booklets are available. Specialists are available Monday through Friday, 9:00AM - 4:30PM PST. Recorded information about cancer is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE (NCI)
The NCI provides a nationwide telephone service for cancer patients and their families and friends, the public, and health-care professionals that answers questions and sends booklets and information about cancer. Their CancerNet information service offers a wide range of accurate, credible cancer information. It is reviewed regularly by oncology experts and is based on the latest research.
NATIONAL CENTER FOR COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE (NCCAM)
Congress established the NCCAM at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to stimulate, develop, and support research on complementary and alternative healing practices for the benefit of the public. The NCCAM conducts and supports basic and applied (clinical) research and research training on complementary and alternative medicine. Concise fact sheets and in-depth information summaries on complementary and alternative medicine are available via their web site.
NATIONAL OVARIAN CANCER NETWORK
OvCa increases awareness about the most lethal of all gynecological cancers, promotes the need for effective early detection, and encourages access to the best possible care.
ONCOLINK
Founded by the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center, this online organization helps cancer patients, families, health care professionals and the general public obtain accurate cancer-related information at no charge. ASSOCIATION OF CANCER ONLINE RESOURCES (ACOR)
This cancer information system currently offers access to 99 electronic mailing lists and a variety of unique web sites. The mailing lists are specifically designed to be public online support groups providing information and community to anyone looking for access to others dealing with similar cancer situations. The Ovarian Problems Discussion List is one of the most relevant mailing lists available with over 1,200 subscribers. To subscribe, click on ‘Mailing Lists’ and browse through the many cancer lists until you get to Ovarian Problems Discussion List. Subscribe online or through e-mail. Send mail to: listserv@listserv.acor.org. Leave the subject line blank and include the words “subscribe ovarian” with your full name in the text of the message (for example: subscribe ovarian Jane Doe).
CANCERVIVE, INC.
Cancervive is a Los Angeles-based, non-profit organization founded in 1985 by childhood cancer survivor, Susan Nessim. Cancervive is dedicated to improving the quality of life for cancer survivors. Survivors will find emotional support, education, and advocacy to help them cope with the aftermath of the cancer experience. Cancervive offers one-on-one and telephone counseling nationally.
CANCER CARE, INC.
Cancer Care, Inc. is a national non-profit agency dedicated to providing emotional support, information, referral, and practical assistance at no charge to people with cancer and their loved ones. They have recently added the AVONcares program, which will allow Cancer Care to provide financial assistance to help women pay for a number of cancer-related expenses.
CANCER HOPE NETWORK
A free, confidential, one-on-one support service for cancer patients and their families. Patients are matched with trained volunteers who have undergone a similar experience. Cancer Hope also provides support and hope as patients and families look beyond the diagnosis and cope with treatment.
GILDA’S CLUB SEATTLE
Gilda’s Club provides a place where people living with cancer, their families, and friends can join others to build social and emotional support as a supplement to medical care.
THE CANCER SUPPORTIVE CARE WEB SITE
Based on the book Cancer Supportive Care by Ernest H. Rosenbaum, MD and Isadora R. Rosenbaum, MA, this web site provides information on topics such as fatigue, support, exercise, coping, sexuality, spirituality, and navigating the Internet. FORCE is a non-profit organization for women who are at high risk of developing ovarian and breast cancers due to their family history and genetic status, and for members of families in which a BRCA mutation may be present. Their web site offers links to online information, message boards, and chat rooms.
NATIONAL COALITION FOR CANCER SURVIVORSHIP
NCCS is the only patient-led organization working on behalf of people with all types of cancer and those who care for them. The NCCS raises awareness through its publications, educates the public to eliminate the stigma of cancer, and advocates for insurance, employment, and legal rights for people with cancer.
PATIENT ADVOCATE FOUNDATION (PAF)
