Translational Research: From Lab Bench to Clinical Application
POCRC consists of a group of dedicated and enthusiastic scientists from a variety of disciplines who have come together to address the issues that we view as most critical in controlling ovarian cancer. We have identified four areas where opportunities exist for us to make a difference.
The first is the identification of tumor markers and the subsequent development of blood tests for the early detection of ovarian cancer (Project 1).
The second is the development of a reliable statistical model to accurately estimate ovarian cancer risk to support appropriate screening for the reduction of incidence and mortality from ovarian cancer (Project 2).
The third is the evaluation of the effectiveness of adoptive T-cell therapy toward the prevention of ovarian cancer progression (Project 3).
The fourth is the identification and elucidation of the function of the genes that mediate chemo-resistance (Project 4).
To maintain a high level of interaction among scientists and rapidly communicate novel discoveries throughout the group, the POCRC has four essential "Research Cores."
The Leadership Core acts as the foundation for scientific interaction, direction, mentoring, and program development.
The Clinical Core serves as the liaison with the community for all POCRC research studies, and is responsible for identification, enrollment and tracking of all study participants.
The Specimen Core collects, manages, and analyzes tissue and blood products to support POCRC research projects.
The Informatics Core supports the ongoing statistical analyses and data management efforts of POCRC investigators
